Craving a Fanny Pack

Alexander Wang, $790... too bulky

American Apparel, $17... too flashy

Fake Gucci on Ebay, $51... close to what I'm looking for

I love going to shows (even the ones where you wait forever for the band to come on). Unfortunately, handbags seem to get in the way when you are surrounded by other fans jostling to get to the front. Don't mess with me, I use my elbows to assert my standing space. As you can see, I need a fanny pack. In the Fashion's Night Out PSA (September 10th) the brilliant Donna Karen is sporting a fanny pack. I doubt I can afford her version so I'm on the hunt for a cheaper but still stylish version.

Feeling Navy Blue (Day 34 of Wardrobe Diary)

In an attempt to class up the shorts I paired them with a ruffled blouse. Then I grabbed nude colored shoes to avoid adding more color to the ensemble.

blouse: vintage
shorts: H&M
belt: gift
wooden bracelet: handwoven in Venezuela
slip-on loafers: Unisa

Birds of a Feather (Day 33 of Wardrobe Diary)

I came out of my room this morning and whaddayaknow, my roommate and I were wearing the same color haha. This was the first day I wore my peacock feather headband. The trend will probably die quickly but it's fun for now.

headband: street vendor in union square
pink blouse: thrift store
skort: vintage
sandals: Marc Fisher Footwear
bag: thrift store

Invested in Purple (Day 32 of Wardrobe Diary)

I needed a comfy outfit today. Enter cotton tee and worn-in jeans. Grey isn't an exciting color but when paired with something correctly, it can look nice. I saw a woman today wearing a grey dress with a bright orange ribbon belt: an interesting contrast.

necklace: Express
tee: Bob's Store
vest: thrift/hand made
jeans: seven for all mankind
sandals: Nine West

International Jewelry Day (Day 31 of Wardrobe Diary)

I had house guests this morning and we talked for too long so I was hurrying and wasn't paying attention to what I put on but then I added my wooden necklace from Ghana and my bracelet from Spain. Accessorizing can make a difference when your clothes say "whatevs."

shirt: H&M
shorts: Target
sandals: Kino Sandals
bag: Target

Pink (Day 30 of Wardrobe Diary)

This morning I woke up thinking I would like to wear my bright pink lipstick (Napoleon Perdis in Calypso). I'm about 99% positive the shade doesn't match my skin tone but I like it because it's loud and happy.

blouse: vintage (my mom's)
heart necklace: vintage (also my mom's I think)
shorts: H&M
sunglasses: H&M
sandals: Kino Sandals

Denim avec Denim (Day 29 of Wardrobe Diary)

Okay so no one is interested in a repeat performance of the Justin-Britney Canadian Tuxedo ensembles... but some people in the fashion industry have been pushing for denim on denim. I thought I would try it. The two different washes and the red tank top helped to break it up a bit.

red ruffle tank: Target
denim tank: H&M
bracelets: vintage
denim shorts: custom L.E.I.s
sandals: Nine West

Fall 09 Wish List

My family plays the lottery occasionally and my Mom loves to talk about what each one of us would use the money for. We say the obvious stuff like pay the mortgage and college loans and then the fun begins. I would like an apartment in a better location for obvious reasons. On a smaller scale, here is my Fall 09 Wish List.

Clockwise: Organic lace button down, Alexis Bittar Chrysophase rough cut ring, Arden B. vest, Kate Spade pink patent leather tote, 7 For All Mankind black straight leg jeans, Belle by Sigerson Morisson blue flats, See by ChloƩ suede over-the-knee boots, YSL Lip Gloss in #4 Frosted Plum

Nod to A.H. (Day 28 of Wardrobe Diary)

One of my friends lovesss gold chains and belting her midsection. I got dressed this morning and realized I was wearing her signature look/uniform :) This locket was given to my Grandmother by my Grandfather. Their pictures are inside. So sweet.

dress: Joyce Leslie
necklace: vintage
belt: from a Liz Claiborne dress
navy blue leggings: Target
sandals: Marc Fisher

Serious Cuffing (Day 27 of Wardrobe Diary)

Today was too hot for long sleeves- roll them up. The shorts have a nice contrasting lining- roll them up. This button down is about 4 sizes too big so I always have to belt it. I could just buy clothes that fit but I loved the bright green color and it was cheap at a thrift store.

button down: Liz Claiborne
belt: Target
shorts: Arden B.
shoes: Laila Rowe

Simple Comfort (Day 26 of Wardrobe Diary)

These pants are too long. I don't know how that is possible considering my height. I will have to get them tailored once rolling the cuffs of your pants is no longer a trend.

button necklace: street vendor
tank top: Urban Outfitters
belt: no idea
pants: Gap
sandals: Nine West

Tropics of the Tri-State Area (Day 25 of Wardrobe Diary)

It is so hottttt outside. I wanted to keep it easy breezy but I didn't feel like wearing sandals so I threw on my saddle shoes. Janelle Monae is a funk singer who is quickly rising to fame and she rocks the saddle shoes in her video.

tank: forever 21
shorts: Old Navy
saddle shoes: ebay
blue bangles: Laila Rowe
glass pendant necklace: gift

Hello Kitty Payday (Day 24 of Wardrobe Diary)

First payday!!! I celebrated by purchasing a tokidoki Hello Kitty wallet! I had never set foot in a tokidoki store before but I wandered in and there HK was... Their site has the cutest HK stuffed animal that's donut-themed hehe. I don't see myself spending $98 on a stuffed animal though. I wanted to wear my jumper today but I needed a shirt under it to make it work appropriate so I added the peasant blouse. I felt a little mountain girl minus the boots and braids. Off to practice my yodeling.

shirt: vintage
jumper: forever 21
sandals: Kino Sandals

Top of the Rock (Day 23 of Wardrobe Diary)

I went to a promotional party at the Top of the Rock for the documentary "Rock Prophesies." My camera is stinky and didn't capture the skyline. I think my ears popped a few times on the way up in the elevator: high enough to be close to the clouds... My partner in crime didn't like this picture of herself so I'm blocking her out despite the really cute dress she is wearing. The guy taking the picture missed cute parts of my outfit anyways.

tank top: H&M
mini skirt: vintage
ring: St. Marks boutique
sandals: Marc Fisher

God Loves Texas (Day 22 of Wardrobe Diary)

Cait & Mark

I've never been to Texas but lately I can't do anything without this state being referenced. One of my favorite shows right now- True Blood, set a few episodes in Texas. A blog I check constantly for inspiration and style advice- Sea of Shoes, written by Jane Aldridge who lives in Trophy Club, Texas. One of my newest friends- Cait, born and raised in Texas. A Texan I sang karaoke with in Soho the other night- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban (Cait was the one to recognize him). Last night, I saw the impressive up-and-coming musician Tyler Bryant perform (he is close to signing with a major label and he is from Cait's itty bitty town). Honestly, the lone star state is calling my name.

I'm wearing...
denim tank top with exposed zipper: H&M
floral spaghetti strap dress: thrift shop
sandals: Kino Sandals

side note regarding the group shot: the guy on the left claimed to be a Calvin Klein model and the girl to my right is only wearing the ugly visor as a joke because some promo girls gave it to her in the bar

My Life, My Love, and My Lady is the Seaaaa (Day 21 of Wardrobe Diary)

More nautical wear. Can't control myself. I love the part in the Charlie's Angels movie when Tom Green sings "Brandy." He hits that high note in a spirited, almost desperate howl.

assorted necklaces: origin unknown
tank top: Old Navy
pants: H&M
ring: jewelry store on St. Marks Place
sandals: Kino Sandals

City Girl on a Budget

I am toying with the idea of wearing an all-black ensemble. When in Rome/New York...

bag: $25 at Laila Rowe
skinny pants: $19.99 Rampage at Macy's
V-neck tee: $7.50 at Old Navy
skull rainboots: $34.99 Chooka at DSW
stack o' bracelets: $12 at Aldo

Ensemble total= $99.48

Reverse those Stripes (Day 20 of Wardrobe Diary)

So yesterday the horizontal stripes had it out for me. I tried vertical instead. This maxi dress was not made very well and as a result, it has worn out after a few wears. I do not intentionally expose myself on a daily basis so I needed a shirt to wear under it in case it started to slide south. I like pairing stripes with floral patterns. It can be challenging not to look like the young girl who just started dressing herself. I didn't do any accessories besides my faux pearl studs- no need to completely blind people who have to see you in this unconventional pairing.

striped blouse: Tracy M. by way of thrift store
maxi dress: Daisy (from a nyc boutique)
sandals: Laila Rowe

These Boots Were Made for Walkin (Day 19 of Wardrobe Diary)

My friend recently invited me to visit her in Texas. No set plans yet but I have the required footwear. I love Fryes. I think I walk differently when I wear them: more of a swagger haha. This dress is so comfortable. I swear, in person it doesn't make me look so wide (horizontal stripes don't do anyone a favor).

dress: thrift shop
necklace: gift
belt: Target
boots: Frye

Blue Moon (Day 18 of Wardrobe Diary)

Roomie tried to get the moon in the pic which is why I am standing on a chair on my balcony. The shot didn't work as planned but how often are the idea and the execution of the idea identical? My blog still doesn't look quite like it should in my mind and I need to be more diligent about taking daily pictures. You do get to see our lovely patio chair though. Speaking of executing an idea... do you wear black and blue together? I am starting to try it. That NYC all-black uniform is slipping into my consciousness.

scarf: taken from Mom
bag: maybe Target a long time ago
tank: topshop by way of thrift store
studded belt: tilt
jeans: topshop
sandals: marc fisher

Bon Appetit! (Day 17 of Wardrobe Diary)

I went to the advance screening of Julie & Julia last night and it was adorable. The whole theater was laughing together when Streep hit the Julia mannerisms and Julie struggled to find herself in the kitchen. It was definitely a "feel good" movie. Kudos to the real-life Julie and her Julie/Julia Project. Bloggers unite! Haha. I thought that the Julia head pasted on my image would look funny but really the alignment is all wrong and it is a bit creepy. I heart Meryl Streep.

pink dress: H&M
layered necklace: wet seal
thumb ring: from a small jewelry shop on St. Marks near Chipotle
sandals: Nine West

Chinatown Bag BUSTED (Day 16 of Wardrobe Diary)

No photographer today- you get an "artsy" collage of my outfit. The handle on my bright orange bag finally broke. I have used it often for the past year and only paid $20 for it. The stitching wasn't done well enough to handle the weight of more than a wallet and a few things. At the time, it held a wallet, phone, water bottle, NYC map, hand sanitizer, fork, empty gladware, magazine, paperback copy of Pride and Prejudice, keys, and a clock radio (the stereo hasn't been installed at work yet). Fake D&G bag- you were very good to me. Thanks for being a loyal friend.

necklace: gift from Aunt
grey t-shirt: Bob's
tiered mini skirt: H&M
sandals: Nine West
bag: Chinatown

Photographer M.I.A.

I have no memory of how to set the timer on my camera (and sadly could not figure it out) and my roommate was out of town to fete the 93rd B-Day of her Dziadzia. Hence, some missing wardrobe diary days. I hope this image of Yigal Azrouel and two runway looks from his Resort 2010 collection will make you feel more inclined to forgive me. He is one of the most beautiful, straight, and talented designers in the business! The turbans are perhaps a nod to his Middle Eastern background. They are crazy practical (much more stylish than a baseball cap on a bad hair day). The draping of the dress is perfect and the neckline on the blouse is very creative. Oh forget the clothes, he is so cute.

Paisley Kind of Love (Day 15 of Wardrobe Diary)

So I was standing on a corner when a man approached me... so not that kind of story perv. Anyways, I was outside the subway talking to my Mother on the phone. I was wearing my "first day of work" outfit (I was slightly overdressed) and he just started taking pictures of me with his professional looking camera. Um hi, who are you and did you ask to take my picture? I promise that he wasn't taking pictures of something/someone else. No one was within 8 feet of me on the sidewalk and he took multiple shots. What did I do? Pretended not to notice. I had been standing on my feet for eight hours and my hair was frizzed. The last thing I needed to do was attract attention by confronting him. Cross your fingers that I don't show up in some trashy mag rag with a censor over my eyes and a headline that says "what was she thinking wearing this?!?" I sincerely hope that doesn't happen because I love paisley.

shirtdress: Liz Claiborne by way of a thrift store
belt: thrift store
bracelet: gift from my roommate when she was living in Spain
sandals: Target

I love this belt but I don't foresee it making the transition into the fall season. Sad story. It's not like sailors hibernate when the leaves change colors but nautical is a true summer theme.
